What are the types of surgical services?

Physicians and Surgeons for Women offer a wide range of surgical services. Our services include minimally invasive in-office procedures, as well as hospital-based surgery.

Types of surgical services include:

Endometrial ablation

Physicians and Surgeons for Women perform an endometrial ablation to treat abnormal menstrual bleeding. During the procedure, your provider inserts a special tool into your uterus to ablate (destroy) the endometrial lining.

Colposcopy

During the in-office colposcopy, your board-certified physician uses a specialized tool to evaluate and biopsy your cervical tissue. A colposcopy is usually recommended following an abnormal pap smear.

Hysteroscopy

During a hysteroscopy, your provider inserts a hysteroscope — a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera — through your vagina to evaluate your cervix and uterus.

Your physician will perform the procedure to evaluate your reproductive organs and perform biopsies of abnormal tissue if needed. This procedure is usually performed at an outpatient surgery center, though they may recommend an in-office EndoSee™ procedure, which accomplishes the same purpose.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique. During a laparoscopy, your provider makes a small incision in your abdomen to insert a laparoscope, a surgical camera that allows them to evaluate your reproductive organs. This assists providers in diagnosing and treating various conditions.

Your physician may use laparoscopic surgery to perform a hysterectomy, remove fibroids, or diagnose and treat endometriosis.

Traditional Abdominal Surgery

During abdominal surgery, your provider makes a large incision through your abdomen to gain access to your reproductive organs to perform the necessary procedure. Though they prefer using minimally invasive techniques, some patients may have a better outcome with traditional abdominal surgery.
