Obstetrics Q & A
What is obstetrics?
Obstetrics is a specialized area of medicine that focuses on pregnancy and childbirth. Physicians and Surgeons for Women is a full-service obstetrics practice. We have been in business since 1976 and have delivered over 10,000 babies.
The board-certified providers and dedicated staff provide comprehensive obstetrics care to help you have a healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery. We aim to ensure you and your baby have the best possible outcomes.
When do I start obstetrics care?
At Physicians and Surgeons for Women, we recommend scheduling your first obstetrics appointment when you know you are pregnant or think you might be. The practice will schedule an immediate visit for pregnancy verification and intake into the practice.
At your first appointment, you will also be scheduled for your first ultrasound, given lab orders, and prescribed prenatal vitamins.
Your provider may schedule an earlier visit based on your medical, gynecologic, or obstetric history.
At Physicians and Surgeons for Women, you have a minimum of 15 prenatal visits with your provider during your pregnancy. During these visits, your provider monitors and evaluates you and your baby, giving you the care you need and expect, so you can focus on preparing for your growing family.
What are the obstetrics services?
Physicians and Surgeons for Women manage every aspect of your pregnancy. In addition to your regular visits with your obstetrician, the practice also provides accurate ultrasound testing at least two times during your pregnancy to assess fetal health and evaluate your reproductive organs.
Physicians and Surgeons for Women provide onsite prenatal non-stress tests (NSTs), which will monitor your baby’s heart rate during activity in the womb.
Your obstetrician and their team will dedicate the time needed to discuss your delivery plan, including what to expect. The board-certified physicians perform both vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
Can obstetrics manage my high-risk pregnancy?
Physicians and Surgeons for Women provide professional care for high-risk pregnancies. Your pregnancy may be high risk if you or your baby have a health condition that may complicate your pregnancy or delivery.
Conditions that place a pregnancy at high risk include:
- Multiple gestations (twins, triplets)
- History of high blood pressure or diabetes
- Preeclampsia
- Gestational diabetes
- Preterm labor or history of difficult pregnancies
- Congenital disabilities or growth abnormalities
Services for high-risk pregnancies may include more frequent office visits and special testing to closely monitor you and your baby’s health.
Physicians and Surgeons for Women specialize in all facets of obstetrics and provide attentive and compassionate care throughout the entire pregnancy. Call the office to book an appointment.
